Employee of The Month #1

Here is the first of a fun little series I have thought about for months now!

This originally started when my cousin was helping me out with Rabbit Brush. We would joke about this one object being the running "Employee of The Month" for months running.

I'm hoping this series will bring light to using what you have, and what works. Here at Rabbit Brush, I've always made do. I thrift and source a lot of my tools secondhand. They're kinda funky, kinda beat-up, but they're super unique and I want to spotlight the everyday tools that I use that help my little business thrive.

You don't need super fancy stuff that is shiny and new, it's radical to re-use and re-purpose things that you already have around your house.

Our first "Employee of The Month" is none other than our fantastic, CLAIROL!

Here is her story:

I was doing a lot of estate sale shopping for little trinkets to sell on our site. I came across this tiny little hairdryer and bought it for I believe $2. She's not great for actually drying hair, because she gets overheated quite quickly. BUT what she is great at is securing the plastic bands that need to be heat-wrapped around our Shag Spray Refill bottles.

When I realized we would have to do this to our refills, I was kind of bummed. Because it's more tiny pieces of plastic, AND I would have to buy a whole new heat tool. But when you place sweet Clairol right on top of the cap she seals 'em right quick.

It always makes me laugh when I remember my cousin and I joking around about Clairol, calling her by name like that. From the other room I would hear him shout "CLAIROL!!!!" and I would shout it back. I don't know why but we would always kind of say it in a southern accent.

You may notice that she is taped up at the bottom. Like I mentioned, Clairol gets overheated quite quickly. There is a tiny toggle at the bottom that if is on "High", will not function. I spent so much time adjusting this toggle that was pretty much broken, I realized I could shove some tape between the toggle and tape it onto that function.

Sometimes if I am producing a lot of refills, she will just short circuit for an hour or two, and has to take a break. But she teaches me a good lesson to take a break too. This tiny but mighty little hair dryer is probably over 40 years old, and easily could have ended up in a landfill. I'm so happy she is in our office working hard for Rabbit Brush, and for that she deserves our very first Employee of The Month award :)

Stay tuned for the next little write up about our favorite funky tools!
